The Catholic wake, also known as a vigil, usually follows a death but takes place before the funeral Mass and burial. The wake or vigil can be held in a variety of places, such as a Catholic church, a family home, a funeral home, or some other location. During the vigil, attendees gather to offer condolences and prayers, which may include the devotional prayer of the Rosary. A Catholic wake or vigil may also include singing, scripture readings or poetry, eulogies and words of remembrance.
Catholic Wake Support is an independent ministry offered by our Sister, Shannon in the Ottawa area, in coordinating and providing wake assistance to families.
